With the launch of the new email tool, it will be required that you purchase a domain name and an email address at that domain for your EDA in order to purchase a Targeted Email plan. This guide will help walk you through the process of purchasing these and some best practices.
Purchasing the Domain
The first step is to buy a domain name for your EDA, this can be done easily through a variety of registrars such as https://www.godaddy.com/en-ca or www.namecheap.com. You can use whatever registrar you prefer. Domains typically cost around $20/year.
Once you have decided which registrar you would like to purchase from, enter the domain you would like to buy. It is best to keep your domain name simple and short so that it’s easy to remember so avoid long names with numbers or hyphens. We suggest selecting a .ca or .com domain.
If your domain is available, continue with that website’s payment process, you will likely be asked to enter contact information for the owner of the domain in addition to the payment information.
Creating and Email Address at Your Domain
You will also need to create an email address at the domain you purchased. This can be done through Google Workplace, Outlook, or a number of other email providers. You will need an email address at a custom domain to send from Targeted Email.
Often when purchasing a domain, services like Google Domains or Namecheap allow you to purchase email hosting at the same time. Pricing varies depending on provider, and number of email addresses being purchased.
Once this is set up, you can create an email address like info@yourdomain.ca or a similar address to be the email address used for sending email through Targeted Email and receiving any questions and replies from people you are emailing.
Next Steps
After setting all of this up, you’re almost ready to start sending emails. It is highly recommended to configure your SPF, DKIM and DMARC records before sending emails to get the best deliverability, so check out our guides on how to get these set up next: Configuring DKIM, SPF and DMARC for email deliverability
